What is the Heineken Regatta ?

The 40th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta took place: From 5 to 8 March 2020 !

The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta started in 1980 under the name St. Maarten Regatta with 12 participating yachts. Three years later, in 1983, Heineken became a major sponsor of the St. Maarten Regatta, hence the addition of the brand to the event name. Heineken participated with a fee of 3,750 guilders (approximately $2,100). As a bonus, competitors received ice-cold Heineken beers from a motorboat that passed by during the race.

After Heineken's participation, the event grew in size. With the addition of a third day in 1990, the event grew to 187 boats in 1995 and 251 boats in 1999. Another day of racing, the Commodore's Cup, was added in 2005. The record number of boats participating in the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta was reached in 2008 with 284 boats.
Ultim'Emotion 2 at the Heineken Regatta

Ultim'Emotion 2 took the start of the Heineken Regatta on March 5th !
149 yachts were present to compete in 17 different classes, this year the regatta was celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Three races and third victory in real time for Ultim'Emotion 2 during the Heineken Regatta !
Great sensations and sailing at more than 30 knots on a hull but no podium ...
Indeed, with a rating system not adapted to trimarans Ultim'Emotion 2 obtains a poor ranking despite a significant lead over her rivals in each of the races.

Finally, the Ultim'Emotion 2 crew will have finished the Heineken Regatta in style with another victory in real time !

Despite a rating against her, Ultim'Emotion 2 and her crew won a third place in compensated time for the last race by finishing the race with a real time of 1h13 and 40min before their first competitor.

She also offers herself the victory for the Tour of the island. In just 2h50 the trimaran flew over the coasts of Sint-Maarten and finished the regatta with a beautiful trophy !
Clean Regatta
In 2009, The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta became the first “clean regatta” in the Caribbean with Sailors for the Sea. Sailors for the Sea is a leading conservation organization that engages, educates, inspires and activates the sailing and boating community toward healing the ocean. They are a movement and pragmatic voice for action that offers boaters tangible opportunities to create a legacy and make a difference.
Keeping both local and non-local’s aware of the environment of St. Maarten and the Caribbean is a strong point on the Regatta’s agenda. At this moment the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta has been awarded with a Silver Certificate and is very eager to maintain this level and try to improve on various points. Together we can help and keep the ocean clean.
